As has happened in previous years, the RPA will be undertaking proactive mapping changes from later this year. This will impact upon the 2020 Scheme year (affecting BPS, as well as Countryside Stewardship and Environmental Stewardship agreements).

This work is due to start in early December 2019 and should be completed before the BPS 2020 application window opens next spring. This should avoid any mapping changes being made whilst farmers are compiling their applications.

The RPA should send notifications via the ‘Messages’ area on the Rural Payments online service with the affected land parcel reference numbers listed and a link through to the relevant digital maps. Due to the inadequacies of the RPA’s system, farmers will potentially receive multiple messages if they are subject to multiple mapping changes, rather than one message containing all the changes.

Based on previous years’ experience, the changes are likely to be small and probably inconsequential, but it is still essential to check them all to avoid any accidentally inaccurate claims or submissions.
