Following the recent exceptional rainfall, the government has announced that it will open up its ‘Farming Recovery Fund’ to support farmers badly affected by flooding across Yorkshire and the Midlands.

This scheme will allow applications for grants between £500 and £25,000 to cover uninsurable damage to their property. This could potentially cover anything from clearing debris to recovering damaged land. Interested parties are advised to act quickly to avoid missing out.

We last saw this scheme locally in 2014 and many farmers benefited hugely from the extensive support offered. DEFRA are yet to confirm exactly what areas will be covered this time. Yorkshire will definitely be included but beyond that, it is a little unclear. Hopefully their reference to the Midlands will at least include Herefordshire and Worcestershire but time will tell.
